A Word From the Pastor - October 25, 2018

I am so thankful for the twelve deacons in our church. Not only do they provide spiritual leadership through their examples of service, but they also make many of the tough decisions that need to be made. Without their guidance, the church would have to vote on every little detail. It would make it nearly impossible to accomplish anything. As it is, God has given us these twelve men who love Him and want to accomplish His Will and further the ministries of Edgefield First Baptist.

Years ago, an architect told us we could install an elevator for $250,000. The deacons added $100,000 to that for unexpected costs and HVAC expenditures. By the time they had done all the leg work and figured out every detail, the bids were in at nearly double what the architect had quoted the church. Everyone was disappointed. In reality, the church has only raised around $200,000 over two years. We don’t have the money even if the architect’s quote had been right.

For those reasons, the deacons opted to go in a different direction. Spending half a million dollars on an elevator when you have 50 year old carpet in your sanctuary, 30 year old HVAC units, and many safety hazards, does not make sense. Therefore, the deacons have come up a lengthy capitol projects list. They have prioritized what needs to be done and what can wait. This list is an incredible resource and they have done an excellent job planning renovations to help this church minister effectively for another 30 years.

Join me in continuing to pray for this group, that they would continue to make such wise and financially prudent decisions. Pray that they would continue to lead well and help us stay focused on the mission of God in Edgefield County and not become distracted with our own personal wants and desires. Please support the deacons as they use the wisdom God has given them to help us reach the nations.

God has many good things in store for Edgefield First Baptist, and I’m so excited to see where He takes us!
