What are your talents? What are your skills? What are the things you enjoy doing? In the movie “Chariots of Fire,” an Olympic runner who was favored to win several races, has to withdraw from one because it is scheduled for Sunday. He is a devout Presbyterian and refuses to run on the Sabbath. Later on in the movie he says: “When I run, I feel his pleasure.” You see, he knew that God had given him an incredible skill for running, and he felt God’s pleasure when he did just that. Now obviously running isn’t a spiritual gift and I’m not quite sure how you could use it in the local church, but the point is the same: Use your talents to bring God glory, and you will find joy.

I find joy in preaching and teaching the Bible. I know that these activities are what I was made for. I enjoy lots of other activities, but these are the things I’m best at. If I wasn’t preaching, I would be missing out on one of the greatest joys in my life. So what are your skills and how can you use them? Come and talk to me if you don’t know what your gifts are. However, I wanted to list out a few broad areas in the church where you can serve if interested. This list isn’t exhaustive, but it does demonstrate a few places where volunteers are always appreciated.

Outreach – planning events and engaging our community in an effort to tell them about Jesus and get them into our church!

Children’s and Youth Ministries – We are always looking for volunteers and teachers to effectively disciple the next generation!

Nursery and Childcare – People willing to help watch infants and toddlers are always appreciated!

Service – From taking meals to the homebound to building wheel chair ramps, we have opportunities for volunteers to meet practical needs in other’s lives!

Women and Men’s Ministries – We want to make sure that every member has an opportunity to grow in their faith and connect with other men and women who are seeking Christ. Whether you’d like to teach, host an in-home Bible study, or serve at an event.

If you would like more information about getting involved in any of these areas, please call the office. We would love to get you in touch with the respective ministry leaders so that you can use your God-given gifts. The German’s were far and away the favorite to win the World Cup this year, but they lost to teams with a lot less talent because they couldn’t play as a team. We are a team, and I know we can make a difference for Christ in our community!

Contact me directly if you have any questions.

P.S. Come support the youth on Sunday as they talk about the Beach Retreat and CCC!
