John F Kennedy in one of his most memorable speeches said: "ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." To be an American means more than simply being protected and having a nice house. No, our country was founded through sacrifice. We pay our taxes, serve on
juries, register for the draft, and some of us enlist. This volunteer service has enabled our country to thrive.
In the same way, our church requires volunteerism. Christ has given each and every one of us gifts and abilities. He is calling you, right now, to use your gifts and talents in gratitude for all the ways He has blessed you. He wants you to be a part of His story bringing salvation to the world!
Yet, our country and our churches have begun to lose sight of the need for service. Selfishness and individuality are words that describe our culture at this moment. That is why we are reading through “I Am A Church Member”, by Thom Rainer. Throughout these 6 chapters, Dr. Rainer calls his readers to serve and focus on the cause of Christ. Every time I read it, I'm convicted of my own sin. I'm convicted of my tendency to worship my desires instead of God's plan.
Please join us through this 6-week study. Pick up a book from the church office or on Sunday mornings in the sanctuary. I promise you won't regret it!
P.S. My sermon Sunday will come from Judges 2.
