March has historically been the month that churches around the U.S. collect the Annie Armstrong mission offering for the North American Mission Board, NAMB. NAMB is a part of Southern Baptist Convention, and they seek to plant churches all over North America. As a staff, we decided that April would be a better month to collect this offering, since Easter falls in April. Yet, why do we need to plant churches in a country where over 70% claim to be Christian?
While it may be hard to imagine in a state that has churches on every street corner, all over our country there are places where it is next to impossible to find a Gospel centered church. In the Northwest and Northeast, there are over 20,000 people per SBC church! Our country is making some terrible decisions regarding the sanctity of Life and Marriage, but if we aren’t taking the Gospel to them, how will they know what God’s Word commands and respond to it? As Paul reminds us in Romans 10:14-15:
“How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!’”
The Annie Armstrong Offering goes to support over 5,000 missionaries and church planters throughout our region. Wouldn’t you like to be part of the Great Commission to take the Gospel to the world starting in your own back yard? We are commanded to take the Gospel to the world, and this is one way you can participate. Begin praying for God to plant more churches and for our nation to respond to the Gospel. Prayerfully consider what you should give. What number has God placed on your heart? 100% of what you designate for Annie Armstrong goes to the mission field. Thank you for being generous.
